8th Induction Ceremony

The Eighth Girard Hall of Fame Banquet, held on November 13, 2004, honored a distinguished group of individuals who made significant contributions to both athletics and the community. Norman Mushrush, a member of the class of 1941, was recognized for his achievements as a fullback in football, a basketball player contributing to a district championship, and his coaching success in baseball. Bill "Willie" Michaels, a class of 1945 member, excelled in football, basketball, and track, earning All-County honors in football and making it to the state finals in track. John Richards, a class of 1942 member known as "Ditch," was celebrated for his leadership on the football field, earning 1st team All-County honors, and for his service in the U.S. armed forces. Alex DelBene, a class of 1946 member, starred in multiple sports and led his softball team to a state championship. He also made significant contributions as a coach, sharing his love for sports with countless student-athletes. Gary Paronish, a class of 1979 member, exemplified excellence as an All-MVC selection three times and left a lasting legacy through the Gary Paronish Award, given to the player with the most dedication and desire. Kris Kelly, from the class of 1993, was a three-year letter winner in football and basketball and displayed strong leadership skills as captain of both teams. Michael Kerrigan, class of 1992, showcased his football talent throughout his high school years and received a full scholarship to Ball State University, where he was part of the Mid-American Conference championship teams. Tony Penza received the Community Service Award for his invaluable contributions to the Girard community, particularly through his dedicated efforts with the Girard Little League, where he not only managed teams but also played a vital role in the development of facilities and the encouragement of young athletes. Together, these inductees represented excellence in athletics and community service, leaving a lasting impact on Girard High School and the local community.
