1996 - The story begins
A group of sports enthusiasts began forming ideas for the Girard Hall of Fame
The Girard Hall of Fame was established in 1997 to recognize the athletic achievements of residents of Girard, Ohio. The committee consists of trustees who strive to verify the facts and accomplishments of potential inductees, and to preserve the rich history of Girard High School's athletic program. To date, 146 deserving individuals have been inducted into the GHOF.
A group of sports enthusiasts began forming ideas for the Girard Hall of Fame
The first official meeting of the GHOF was held, where by-laws were created and officers were appointed by GHS Athletic Director, Gary Barber.
16 athletes were inducted into the newly formed Girard Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at the Avon Oaks Ballroom.
Five officers and twenty-four community members were confirmed to serve as original GHOF Trustees.
The GHOF conducts meetings monthly, celebrates the talents of past and present athletes, and anticipates athletic excellence in the future.
