3rd Induction Ceremony
The 3rd Girard Hall of Fame Banquet, held on December 11, 1999, celebrated the outstanding achievements of a diverse group of individuals who left an indelible mark on the world of sports and their community. Walter Pavlick, a multi-sport athlete at GHS and Case Western Reserve University, was recognized for his remarkable leadership and sportsmanship. Ron Scarfo, an exceptional football player at GHS and Arizona State University, earned accolades for his prowess on the field. Michele Frankford Duer, a gymnastics and track champion, showcased her competitive spirit and talent at all levels. Bill Triplett, a football star at GHS and Miami, Ohio University, who enjoyed a successful 11-year NFL career, was honored for his remarkable journey in football. Terry Murray, a track record holder and a state champion, set an inspiring example of athletic excellence. Alex Aurilio, a versatile athlete in football, track, and basketball at GHS and beyond, was recognized for his remarkable contributions to the field. Phil Gaston, a basketball player at GHS and Youngstown State University, entered the elite "1,000 Point Club" at YSU. Anthony "Scrappy" Zirafi, a multi-sport athlete and dedicated coach, was celebrated for his all-around sporting excellence and coaching contributions. Delos Drake, a Girard native who played for the Detroit Tigers and made significant contributions to baseball, was remembered as a trailblazer in the sport. George Light, a dedicated teacher, coach, and community servant, was honored with the Community Service Award for his tireless commitment to Girard High School and its athletic programs. Goethal "Goety" Stringer, a multi-sport athlete, was remembered for his contributions to football, basketball, and softball during the challenging times of the 1930s. Together, these inductees represented the best of Girard's sporting heritage and community service.
