6th Induction Ceremony
The Sixth Girard Hall of Fame Banquet, held on November 30, 2002, honored a distinguished group of individuals who left a lasting impact on the world of sports, education, and community service. Jack Britt, a dedicated community leader, earned recognition for his accomplishments in high school football and his contributions to education. John "Tiger" Demas, a versatile athlete and school leader, was celebrated for his achievements in football, baseball, track, and his role as Homecoming King and senior class president. Sam Pagano, an outstanding high school football player and president of the Class of 1949, was honored for his contributions on the field and his career goals influenced by his coach, Phil Koppel. Stanley Hosking, a two-sport star in basketball and track, was recognized for his leadership as a basketball team captain and his role in the 1953 Indian cagers' championship achievements. Roland "Rollie" Mushrush, a multi-sport star from the Class of 1962, was acknowledged for his career as a coach and mentor to young athletes. Andy Saxon, known for his baseball talent, was celebrated for his enduring contributions to athletics in Girard and the Mahoning Valley. Jim Stacchiotti, a model student-athlete, earned recognition for his scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, and athletic accomplishments. Bob Courtney, an excellent triple-sport star, was honored for his leadership and contributions during his career at GHS. Tom Kolic received the Community Service Award for his dedicated coverage and promotion of Girard High School athletes and students through his writing for the "Girard News" and the 'Review' for over 30 years, particularly through his popular "Korner" sports column. Together, these inductees represented the best of Girard's sporting heritage and community service, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
