4th Induction Ceremony
The Fourth Girard Hall of Fame Banquet, held on December 2, 2000, celebrated the achievements of outstanding individuals from Girard High School's rich sports history. Among the inductees were Robert Anderson, a pioneering athlete in football and basketball, Bernard Watts, a football star who earned All-Southern and All-American honors, Joseph Parilla, a high-scoring basketball forward, and Fred Faiver, a baseball legend inducted into multiple halls of fame. Also honored were Anthony Maiorana, a boxing champion, Paul Emery, a track and cross country standout, Dave DelBene, a baseball scholar, Dave Cernich, a basketball standout and member of the Yugoslavian National team, Michael Taylor, a baseball star at Girard and the University of Akron, and Edward Matkovich, a dedicated teacher and coach who received the Community Service Award. Additionally, Pat Meyer, a dominant football lineman at Girard and Colorado State, who later played in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, was recognized for his achievements both on and off the field.
