Webster Dawson, a remarkable athlete adept in three sports, engaged in football, basketball, and track during his tenure at Girard High School. Renowned for his remarkable speed, Webster's standout moment involved a 103-yard touchdown run against Austintown Fitch, etching his name in history. His excellence in football earned him the title of Most Valuable Player in 1954. In the realm of basketball, Webster's impact was equally noteworthy. During his senior year, he led the scoring charts for the team, amassing a total of 283 points. In track and field, he left his mark by establishing GHS records in the long jump, 220 meters, and 440 meters. His athletic prowess shone brightly at the Steel Valley Conference track meet in 1955, where he was named the Most Valuable Player after securing two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Following his graduation, Webster pursued his education at Youngstown University, where he continued to showcase his explosive skills as a halfback. During his freshman year, he even held the distinction of leading the nation in yards per carry, boasting an impressive average of 14.5 yards. Regrettably, Mr. Dawson passed away in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional athletic achievement.
