He was born in Girard in 1899 and lived and worked there his entire life. He attended Girard Schools where he was a star football player in 1916-17 seasons and would be active in his community long after his illustrious playing days were over. How illustrious..he was the first professional football player from the city of Girard...he was a teammate of one of the greatest athletes of all-time... the great Jim Thorpe on the Canton Bulldogs teams of 1925-26 and the most well-known Trumbull County athlete at the time. He made his way to pro football through Gettysburg College. He played both sides of the ball as a center and defensive tackle at an undersized 6’0, 220lbs.
