Outstanding prep and collegiate basketball player. At 6'5” tall, he was dubbed the "Gentle Giant". Averaged 17.2 rebounds per game his senior season ranking 1st in the Steel Valley Conference and Honorable Mention All-Northeastern Ohio in 1971. A four-year letterman at
Youngstown State University, he led Division I college rebounders in the 1974-75 season. At YSU, he gathered 560 career rebounds, ranking 8th on the all-time list and scored 1,081 career points. ranking 20th all-time. He is a member of YSUs' elite "1,000 Point Club".
