A three-sport letter winner in football, basketball and track. Earned 2nd team All-Steel Valley and honorable mention All- Trumbull County In 1958 for football as a junior. He captured first team All- Steel Valley honors for football in 1959 and first team All-Steel Valley honors for basketball in 1960. His outstanding performance in the 1959 football season resulted in breaking the GHS rushing record, previously set by James Lambert, with his 1,002 yards. He went on to attend Iowa University and won the prestigious Freshman Award in 1960. He would also attend KentState University and playfootball there as well.
