Earning his place as a First Team All-Steel Valley selection, he defied size expectations as an offensive tackle. His exceptional contributions did not go unnoticed, as he garnered the esteemed title of Lineman of the Year from the Lion's Club. Additionally, he received the 'Athletes Award' from the Girard Rotary Club, a testament to his status as Girard High School's exemplary senior scholar/athlete. His leadership qualities were evident during his time at Girard, where he was elected as the president of the National Honor Society. His remarkable journey continued with an appointment to West Point, a reflection of his dedication and achievements. In the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Association 150 Ib Lightweight League, he pursued football with fervor. As a senior, he earned recognition as an All-Eastern League selection at the position of offensive guard. His commitment extended to the field as his teams clinched three Eastern League Championships, including an undefeated season and a notable victory over arch-rival Navy in his senior year. His contribution was pivotal to a high-octane offense that outscored opponents 225 to 35 over the course of the season. He demonstrated a remarkable balance between sports and academics, graduating in the top third of his class at West Point. Following his graduation, he continued his journey of service, this time as a captain in the US Army for seven years.
