A standout among Girard High School's early athletes, he graduated with the Class of 1928. His passion for sports encompassed a wide range – basketball, baseball, football, and even bowling – and he demonstrated exceptional prowess, outshining his competitors. In the realm of football, his talents were undeniable. He earned the distinction of being a first-team All-County selection, as recognized by both the Niles Times and the Warren Tribune in 1927. Widely acknowledged as one of the top players in the county, he particularly stood out for his offensive skills, excelling in rushing and passing. His ability to gain crucial yardage and outwit his opponents solidified his reputation as Girard's most intimidating player. Notably, he was also hailed as the region's premier kicker.
