Outstanding all-around player of the early 1900's. Born in Girard, Ohio on December 3, 1886. Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1902 at age 15. He spent 3 seasons in the Tiger minor league system before making their major league roster in 1911. Played outfield alongside Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford. Played in the International and Federal leagues for the St.Louis Feds. Retired from professional ball in 1917 at theage of 30 with a career batting average of .301. In the late 1930's, as Findlay College baseball coach, he posted a .823 winning percentage. Was involved in the first documented case of platooning players in major league history.
