ABOUT
Bernard was an outstanding football player at Girard HighSchool, earning two varsity letters. He went on to star at North Carolina State from 1946 to1950. He earnedAll-Southern honor three times and fained All-American Honorable mention three times at the guard position. At only 57" and 145 pounds, he was named to the "Look Magazines” All-American team in 1948 and was similarly honored by UPI. He played in the 1946 Gator Bowl on the Wolfpack team that lost to a powerful Oklahoma Sooner team. He is a member of the Summit County Hall of Fame and the N.C. State Hall of Fame.
