During his tenure at Girard High School, he embraced the realm of three sports – football, wrestling, and track and field – cultivating a skillset that would lay the foundation for his subsequent achievements as a Mount Union Purple Raider. In the domain of track and field, his versatility shone brightly as he engaged in an array of events, including the 110M high hurdles, the 300M intermediate hurdles, the 4x400 meter relay, and the high jump. As a junior in 1996, he merited the team MVP title for amassing the most points throughout the track season. This accomplishment was echoed the following year, his senior season, in which he ranked second in team scoring. In that same standout senior season of 1997, he matched the school record for the 110M high hurdles with a swift 15.0 seconds, securing his legacy as a two-time regional qualifier in the event. Football, however, became the arena where he etched enduring memories. Over two years, he garnered recognition as a two-time 1st Team All-Mahoning Athletic Conference honoree as both a linebacker and place kicker. His leadership was palpable during his senior year, notably recording an impressive 21 tackles in a game against Canfield. Post-graduation, he transitioned his talents to the gridiron powerhouse, the University of Mount Union. As a three-year starter for the Purple Raiders, he earned distinction as a two-time 1st Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection as a tight end. These standout seasons yielded twelve touchdowns, including pivotal game-winning scores against arch-rival John Carroll University in consecutive years. The first decisive victory occurred in 1998 during the third overtime, while the second unfolded in 1999 through a remarkable 72-yard catch and run. His trajectory culminated as a triumphant three-time Division III National Champion under the guidance of head coach Larry Kehres. An astounding 54-1 four-year record stands as a testament to his prowess. One of the pinnacle moments arrived as he scored the sole touchdown in the National Championship game, propelling a resounding 10-7 victory against St. John's of Minnesota in 2000. This achievement crowned an undefeated season and solidified Mount Union's fifth National Championship.
